Surface Catalysis for Energy

Program Manager: Brian C. Holloway, Ph.D.

The Surface Catalysis for Energy (SurfCat) program is developing new catalytic materials and processes to enable high-efficiency alternative energy sources that are compatible with military logistic fuels. With advanced modeling, improved understanding of nanoscale catalytic processes, and improved materials synthesis techniques, there is now the potential for vast improvements in the efficiency and selectivity of many catalytically driven chemical processes. The SurfCat program seeks to exploit those advances for advanced fuel cell chemistries, revolutionary biomass-to-fuel conversion processes, and new photocatalysts for CO2 reduction.
