Presentation

Summary of Introduction to Breakout Session

How has nature made some materials that are much more successful than human-made materials? Dr. Robert Birge posed that question to participants in this discussion group. Presentation included an exploration of biomineralization, including the natural creation of robust ceramics. A second presentation covered bioelectronics, including examination of "bacteria rhodopsin." The final topic involved the use of combinatorial methods to make new proteins, perhaps more efficiently than nature's trial-and-error process.
