Team Description* |
The Team LUX is
Ibeos first Grand Challenge team for the DARPA Urban
Challenge 2007. Since 1998 Ibeo develops laserscanners
to detect, identify and interpret objects and lane
markings flawlessly. Unique development work has enabled
Ibeo to establish technological leadership, including
more than 40 international patents and patent
applications. Ibeo is also a specialist in Advanced
Driver Assistance Systems and is deeply involved in
cutting edge European ADAS projects. Currently Ibeo
operates 4 test vehicles (3 passenger cars and 1 truck),
two of which are equipped for autonomous driving.
The Team-LUX has 11 members, 6 in the core team and 5
supporters. As team leader, Ibeo has partnered with
Richard Bishop of Bishop Consulting, well-known
specialist in the intelligent vehicle domain. All media,
communications and marketing issues are handled by our
marketing team, lead-managed by Tanja Veeser. In the
technical team, 4 of Ibeos application specialists and 4
supporters work on a combination of existing and future
driver assistance systems to operate a normal car
autonomously in unknown urban environment.
The race vehicle is a standard VW Passat 2.0 TDI,
equipped with 3 laserscanners for 360° perception around
the vehicle. No other sensors of any type are required!
To take one step beyond the usual research vehicles, the
LUX car is near-production in appearance, mostly without
visible extensions such as sensors, antennas or
processing systems.
The team name is derived from the LUX which is the next
generation laserscanner beyond the ALASCA sensor.
Work on the LUX Passat began in July 2006.
Team LUX offers special thanks to Sick AG for their
support of our team!
