Advanced Soldier Sensor Information System and Technology (ASSIST)

Program Manager: Dr. Mari Maeda

Background:

The U.S. military has developed various reporting mechanisms to support information collection and communications. Warfighters are called upon to report in a timely and accurate manner key observations and experiences during ground missions. Information on physical terrain, human terrain, events, and activities must be accurately captured and disseminated. Such information sharing is essential for improving situational understanding and overall operational effectiveness especially in today's urban combat environments. The confusion of the battlefield combined with the physical and psychological stresses and fatigue can make this task very difficult. Furthermore, today's verbal and text-based reports limit the extent of information that is conveyed and critical information is lost. ASSIST Program is developing new technologies to improve the accuracy and quality of reporting, to improve the ease with which such information sharing is done, and to accelerate the information sharing process.
