Exploitation of 3-D Data (E3D)
Program Manager: Dr. Monte Turner (STO)
Mission:
Data acquired by new 3D sensors enables us to perform more precise identification of objects by making use of the geometric properties of sensed object data. DARPA IXO has conceived a program that will perform target acquisition and recognition in an exploitation system that uses 3D data. Most importantly, this exploitation system signals a change from more conventional Automatic Target Recognition approaches, in two significant ways: 1) the technique is no longer dependent on template matching, therefore performing more rapid recognition, and 2) 3D data enables Recognition by Components or Parts—a significant feature with the introduction of more and more non-conventional targets into combat areas.
At this website, we will provide information on the following concepts:
- Recognition by Components: Target Recognition.
- Use of 3D Environments to locate targets: Target Acquisition.
- New techniques in target model-building.
