High Productivity Computing Systems (HPCS)

Program Manager: Dr. Charles Holland

Challenges:

  • Balanced scalable system architecture
    • Processors, memory, interconnects, system software and programming environments
  • High effective bandwidth (on/off chip)
    • Silicon, CPU, memory, network, and storage
  • System robustness or brittleness
    • Hardware/software reliability (poor understanding of point failures)
    • Fault recovery or restart
    • Software bug tolerance
  • Performance monitoring, measurement and prediction
  • System "Design Point" tailorability
    • Programming models
    • Virtual machine instantiations
    • Quality of Service
  • Measurement of productivity in a way that is applicable across the spectrum of DoD HPC applications
