Information Assurance
Networks are a critical asset in ensuring U.S. forces a dominant position in military operations by making information itself a key enabler for some of our most sophisticated and lethal weapons. Networks can provide the warfighter the tactical and strategic advantage to successfully conduct a wide range of operations. However, this great capability itself presents a natural target for our enemies. STO is investing in novel technologies to enable adaptive networking capabilities that dramatically improve performance and reduce life threatening communication failures in complex communication networks. STO seeks to develop reconfigurable, ad hoc mobile network based systems and dynamic quarantine defenses to defend against cyber attack and to support successful missions in the face of malicious attacks to include computer worms, malicious code, remote cyber intrusions, and soft and hard run-time failures. STO's development of robust, secure interconnectivity that far exceeds today's capabilities and that guarantees continuity of communication across network boundaries is key for our tactical forces to successfully perform network centric operations. Part of this technology development is focused on assuring security of the systems that power network centric operations.
