Description

The overall objective of TRITON is to provide a field quality, Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6) submarine laser communication system that operates in the blue spectrum for evaluation during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) naval exercise in fiscal year 2012. The intent is to validate the significant improvement blue laser technology brings to submarine laser communications (SLC) at speed and depth; specifically, in meeting, or exceeding, the Navy's specified downlink communication requirements for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations. This effort will leverage a number of the previously demonstrated SLC technologies, including Cesium Atomic Line Filters, solid-state lasers (SSLs) and forward error correction coding.
