Description

DARPA intends to release a Program Solicitation for Phase I of the Walrus Technology Demonstration program on or about January 31, 2005. The Walrus program objective is to bring together earlier airship ideas and infuse them with new technologies resulting in the design development of a global reach air vehicle and scalable prototype technology demonstrator. The envisioned vehicle will be able to transport entire units of action (500+ tons) with equipment and weaponry from fort to fight. Walrus will be able to deliver to sites which lack transportation routes, support infrastructure, or prepared reception facilities. It will operate from unimproved landing sites and in the maritime environment.

The DARPA web page (WWW.DARPA.MIL) will host the solicitation and other program information on or about January 31, 2005. Prospective offerors are invited to obtain a copy of the solicitation and submit questions/comments through the email link provided at this web page. An Industry Day is anticipated to be held on or about February 11, 2005 from 8:30 to 2:30 at Booz Allen Hamilton in Arlington, VA. This meeting is intended to convey an overview of the program and solicitation to Industry and address publicly questions pertaining to the briefing materials and solicitation. Attendance at the event will be limited to two (2) representatives per company. The meeting will be unclassified. Access to the meeting is limited to U.S. citizens, individuals with a green card or resident aliens. Prior registration for Industry Day is required for all attendees. Further details for Industry Day including directions and procedures for registration will be posted on the DARPA web page on or about February 1, 2005.
