Description
The Defense Advanced Research Agency (DARPA) intends to release a Program
Solicitation for the Oblique Flying Wing (OFW) Advanced Technology Demonstration
program on or about June 6, 2005. The goal of the OFW program is to expand
the design space for future aircraft concepts, particularly for those
missions that demand both supersonic speed and long endurance. The OFW
program seeks to tackle the most daunting problems in aerodynamic control,
aero-structural design, and propulsion integration with a supersonic,
tailless, X-Plane demonstrator, along with ground testing of operationally
representative sub-system concepts. The OFW program will evaluate missions
and design challenges, mature critical enabling technologies, validate
design methodologies and address technical issues that require flight
demonstrations. The DARPA web page (www.darpa.mil) will
host the solicitation and other program information on or about June 6,
2005. Prospective offerors are invited to obtain a copy of the solicitation
and submit questions/comments through the email link provided at this
web page. The DARPA Program Manager is Tom Beutner, ph. 571-218-4833;
email tbeutner@darpa.mil.
